After NINE years of dedication and service to the South Sound Squash Club, Dean Watson retires from teaching and hangs up his coaching hat. On May 17th, Dean’s last day, Cindy Powell had the pleasure of taking the last lesson.

Amanda Stark, Club Manager, was privileged  presenting Dean with a special gift from the club and hope he takes a break from raising his young Watson’s and we see him on the courts.

The SSSC’s members, board of directors and staff thank Dean and wish him, Karen and his young family all the best!

The ultimate goal of the ladder is to further heighten the excitement of squash at the club, but also to create a club ranking system. This system will be the primary list used for tournaments, club events and general gloating purposes.

8 items to keep in mind with the Ladder.

1. You may only challenge up 5 positions only
2. If you win, you move your magnet above your opponents. Everyone else moves down. This means the more active you are on the ladder the further you move up. If you are inactive…..we’ll you get the picture.
3. A no show = Auto Win
4. Challenge an opponent more than twice with no response = Auto Win

7. Challenger books the court
8. A challenge must be accepted before the match begins

Mark Chaloner, coach at the South Sound Squash Club whose highest world ranking was #7, took Chris Walker, USA National Coach whose world ranking at it’s peak was #4 to an epic battle of wills and determination. After 64 minutes of play, wicked long rallies and amazing gets, Mark took the match 3-2 with the finals games scores of 11/9, 10/12, 11/9, 10/12, 11/6.

After the match was complete the players welcomed a Q and A session while their heart rates returned to normal (Mark’s heart rate was 183 bpm at max) and soon after a draw was held to see which two ticket holders would be the lucky winners of a semi-private squash lesson with Mark and Chris the next day. Julian Jervis and Jon Dobbin were the two fortunate names to be drawn and 10:30 the next morning they got the lesson of a lifetime!

The atmosphere in the club was phenomenal as everyone left court side and ventured to bar side for a few more hours of socializing. On behalf of the South Sound Squash Club, I would like to thank Mark Chaloner, Chris Walker, Cayman Sports, CayBrew and Premier Wines and Spirits for their partnership in putting together this amazing display of the sport we all love!

Rematch???

The first four days of competition will take place at the South Sound Squash Club and then the action moves to the glass court on the picturesque Festival Green at Camana Bay. Camana Bay is where reigning World Champion Nicol David won her three Cayman Open titles. David is the six time World Champion from Malaysia and remains undefeated on Cayman soil. In a message sent for today’s event David said; “It’s just fantastic that the Cayman Islands will be hosting the 2012 World Open. I’m really excited to be back there and I know a lot of people are coming from all over the world to watch the top women compete and enjoy everything the island has to offer.”

David heads the list of 88 athletes participating in the week long Cayman World Open competition that will include,

• 32 player main draw
• 64 player qualifying draw
• Approximately 34 different nationalities present
• Wildcard entrants include: top 2 players from the Cayman Islands, top 2 Caribbean Female senior and junior players, top US College players, top Canadian College players.

During the CML South Sound Squash Club Championships you may have seen some cameras and interviews happening. This was part of CML Offshore Recruitment’s sponsorship of the championship and the making of the SSSC Marketing Video was created.
